The city of Sion

Located in the heart of the Alps, the city of Sion is the political and administrative capital of the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It boasts an important archaeological and historical heritage, especially thanks to its medieval old town, dominated by the castles of Valère and Tourbillon. The Sion region also played a major role in the Alpine Neolithic from 5200 BCE, and is particularly well known for the Dolmenic necropolis and the anthropomorphic stelae at the Petit Chasseur and Don Bosco sites.
The city is home to the largest decentralised branch of the EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne), the Haute École d’Ingénierie and the Haute École de Santé (HES-SO Valais-Wallis), as well as several research institutes of the Universities of Geneva and Lausanne. With its excellent rail and road links, Sion is an ideal location for an international conference.
